A great fight took place between Liam Wilson and Youssef Dibb on Saturday, March 1st 2025.
Congratulations to both men for showing heart and true championship spirit.
Amid all the controversy regarding Gervonta Davis taking a knee that wasn’t counted as a knockdown, Youssef Dibb demonstrated the importance of strategically using a knee and a count to his advantage.
Is taking a knee and using the count a sign of weakness? Not at all. In fact, for highly skilled boxers, knowing how and when to take a knee is crucial for staying in the fight.
Youssef Dibb was knocked down twice in the first round of his rematch against Liam Wilson, leading many to believe he was out of the game and a potential KO or TKO was imminent.
However, what we observed was that by taking a knee and maximizing his time to regain his composure, Dibb lasted the full 12 rounds, coming back stronger like a true warrior.
Had Dibb not taken a knee, it is likely that Wilson would have won by KO or that the referee would have stopped the fight due to Dibb not being in the right condition to continue. Strategically taking the knee in this manner is a sign of a composed, confident, and determined boxer.
Understanding the risk of being knocked down and making the smart choice to regroup is what separates more seasoned fighters from the rest.
They don't allow a knockdown to determine the outcome of the fight.
This was clearly evident last Saturday night between Wilson and Dibb.
